There is nothing more frustrating than testing in a SAP environment. It is not for nothing that it is sometimes joked that the abbreviation stands for ‘slow and painfull’. Now that many SAP systems will have to be integrated in the coming years to the data-driven S/4 Hana system, the Leuven start-up GO NOGO wants to automate and streamline the process as much as possible.

Because it really is a must, says GO NOGO CEO Wim Coremans. “Sometime around 2027, SAP will stop supporting their ECC/on premise systems, and everyone will have to move to S/4 Hana. And that is not so obvious; it must be properly tested, and it must be properly tested, otherwise the consequences can be severe. Just think of the days-long breakdown at Argenta in 2018, or the loss of millions that H&M suffered when its computer systems were unavailable for a few hours.’

Wim Coremans, who has been active in test management for more than ten years, decided to focus on the testing process and developed an approach with GO NOGO that, in his own words, is ‘unique’. ‘It all starts with a well-developed roadmap at the outset. Otherwise you will get stories like LIDL, which decided to stop a few years ago after investing half a million euros in a SAP process, because things were wrong from the start. The question of what you want to test must therefore be answered clearly, as does the question of whether the task of people will be internal or external, or a combination of both. We also discuss how we want to follow up the testing. For this we use management reporting tools (Q Test) from our partner Tricentis.’

By renting out the products of Tricentis, which develops software testing tools for SAP, GO NOGO can save its customers expensive and long-term licensing costs. In collaboration with a network of about three thousand freelance testers, the start-up can thus be active throughout Europe. ‘With a tool like TOSCA, which automates testing, we also reduce the routine manual testing work, and we turn business users into validators rather than testers. This also makes the work more pleasant and less demanding for them.’

Go live?

At the end of the process comes the final decision: ‘GO or NO GO Live?’ ‘Hence our company name,’ Coremans smiles. ‘We currently find customers mainly through brokers who contact us spontaneously after a specific question from their customer. We are already active or have already worked for insurers such as Ethias, Brussels Airport, Credendo or large companies such as Coca Cola. Last year we already had a turnover of half a million euros.’

Now GO NOGO mainly wants to grow in Europe. ‘When I had to recruit six people for a project at a customer in 2019, I learned that we will remain profitable even then. The more customers we can help with our solution, the better it will be for the customer and us. That is why we now want to focus on sales by developing an active sales strategy. After all, in the long run we want to grow into a real professional partner of Tricentis and a quality label for SAP projects. In order to achieve that goal, we must above all dare to invest. A first pitch of our business model at the FINMIX meetings showed that an investment of €400,000 via a business angel is recommended to grow from a start-up to a scale-up.’

Go live?

GO of NO GO Live?’ ‘Vandaar onze bedrijfsnaam dus’, glimlacht Coremans.

Nu wil GO NOGO vooral Europees groeien.
